Brief of Company Background
The company was founded in 1982. Since May 1996, the company became purely a holding company in the Sinar Mas Group. In line with recent strategy, Sinarmas Multiartha has transferred all its assets, except equity participation in its subsidiaries, to PT Sinar Mas Multi Finance. This transfer will not affect revenues, since the company fully controls PT Sinar Mas Multi Finance. As decided by the extraordinary general meeting of shareholders which convened in May 1996, in addition functioning as a holding company for the Sinar Mas Group, the company will only operate in the financial services and treasury management lines. At the end of 1997, the company forged an alliance with a foreign insurance broker LG Insurance Corporation of Korea through a subsidiary: PT Asuransi Sinar Mas. The joint venture company is 70% owned by LG Insurance. On May 1998, the company settled US$ 20 million of its US$ 37 million debt.
