Rupiah Seen Weakening Against Dollar ahead of FOMC Meeting

The rupiah exchange rate on Monday (26/7) may weaken against the US dollar as the market awaits the outcome of the US Central Bank's monetary policy meeting on Thursday morning this week.

"The market is anticipating the possibility that the Central Bank will issue a monetary tightening view in the near future," said money market analyst Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

Furthermore, the ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases in a number of countries, especially in the Southeast Asia region, is also still a concern for the market.

In Indonesia itself, strict restrictions are still in place, although a bit looser because the increase in cases is still relatively high.

On the other hand, market interest in risk assets is still quite high, with the rise in stock indexes in the US and Europe at the end of last week's trading.

The potential movement of the rupiah today is in the range of 14450-14520 per US dollar.
