Global Factor, Covid-19 Cases May Pressure Rupiah

The rupiah exchange rate may still weaken against the US dollar on Thursday (24/6), triggered by sentiment from the Fed and the daily case of COVID-19 in Indonesia.

"Several high-ranking officials of the US Central Bank are still voicing the potential for an increase in the US benchmark interest rate which is faster than previously projected because the rising inflation, although temporary, will last for a longer time. These comments encourage the strengthening of the US dollar against other exchange rates," said Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

Domestically, the market may still be concerned that the daily COVID-19 cases will continue to create new record cases.

"Longer activity restrictions because new cases continue to increase could hamper the pace of economic recovery," he said.

The potential for weakness is in the range of 14480-14500 per US dollar.
