BPS: Inflation Up 0.10 Percent, CPI 106.06 in February


The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded an inflation of 0.10% with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.06 in February. The Agency said on  Monday (1/3).

Of the 90 CPI cities, 56 experienced inflation, and 34 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Mamuju at 1.12%, with a CPI of 106.72.  The lowest occurred in Tasikmalaya and Sumenep with 0.02%, respectively, with CPI of 103.88 and 105.52.

The highest deflation occurred in Gunungsitoli at 1.55%, with a CPI of 107.33. The lowest occurred in Malang and Tarakan at 0.01%, with CPI of 104.08 and 104.27 respectively.

"Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by the increase in most indices of the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage, and tobacco group by 0.07%, clothing and footwear group by 0.06%, housing, water, electricity, and materials group, household burns by 0.04%, equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance by 0.36%, health group 0.19%, transportation group 0.30%, recreation, sports, and culture group 0.06%, and the food and beverage/restaurant supply group of 0.28%, "explained the Head of BPS, Suhariyanto.

The expenditure group that experienced a decrease in the index was the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.03% and the personal care and other services group by 0.14%. Meanwhile, the education group did not change.

The calendar year's inflation rate (January – February) in 2021 is 0.36%, and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2021 against February 2020) is 1.38%.

The core component in February 2021 experienced inflation of 0.11%. The core component's inflation rate for the calendar year (January– February) in 2021 is 0.25%. The core component's inflation rate from year to year (February 2021 against February 2020) is 1.53%.
