Two Factors Trigger Inflation in August


Jakarta – The start of the school year in the education sector and the rising price of cooking oil triggered inflation in August 2021.

Setianto, Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics at the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), stated that the consumer price index (CPI) experienced monthly or MoM inflation of 0.03 %  in August 2021.

On an annual basis, inflation was recorded at 1.59% year-on-year (YoY), a slight increase compared to the position in July 2021 of 1.52% YoY.

"Inflation occurs due to an increase in several commodities, cooking oil and in August is a new school year, so that school and university entrance fees have increased, each with a share of 0.02%," he said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday (1/09).

According to Setianto, other commodities such as tomatoes, fresh fish, kretek cigarettes, papaya, house rent, and high school tuition fees contributed 0.01% to inflation. Meanwhile, out of
