Rupiah Tends to Weaken Against Dollar

On Tuesday (20/4), the rupiah exchange rate has the potential to weaken by moving to the range of 14,580 per US dollar.

"The 10-year tenor US government bond yield climbed again above 1.60% in yesterday's trading. This has the potential to push down the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar today," said Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

From the domestic front, market players are waiting for Bank Indonesia monetary policy meeting outcome this afternoon. And BI will likely maintain its benchmark interest rate.

Meanwhile, the market itself has begun to project that the US Central Bank will tighten monetary policy.

"So if BI makes cuts, the potential for rupiah depreciation will be greater. However, if BI maintains its interest rate policy, the weakening of the rupiah may be restrained," he explained.
