Rupiah May Weaken Against Dollar on Lack of Positive Cues


The rupiah exchange rate on Tuesday (10/8) is likely to be depressed against the US dollar triggered by the tapering issue and the increase in global COVID-19 cases.

Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra said the tapering issue rolled out last Wednesday night by the Deputy Governor of the US Central Bank, Richard Clarida will continue this week.  The improving government version of the US employment data released on Friday evening last week supported the issue.

"Last night, the President of the Boston branch of the US Central Bank, Eric Rosengren, also revealed that tapering is likely to start later this year. The issue of tapering which reduces the liquidity of the US dollar in the market has encouraged the strengthening of the US dollar," he said in Jakarta.

In addition, the increase in COVID-19 cases in the world is also a concern for market players, which could push the market out of risk assets.
