The rupiah exchange rate has the potential to weaken against the US dollar on Wednesday trade (28/4) as the yield on the US treasury climbs back above 1.6% ahead of the announcement of the results of the Federal Open Market Committee Meeting on Thursday.

"The expectation that the Fed will provide a more positive picture of economic recovery and a more positive increase in inflation is likely to drive this yield increase," said money market observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

He added that the improving survey data on the level of US consumer confidence in April also helped boost the strengthening of the US dollar due to the prospects for economic recovery.

"The rupiah has the opportunity to weaken to the range of 1.4530 per US dollar with potential support at the level of 14,460 per US dollar," he said.
