Spike in COVID-19 Cases Put Rupiah in Pressure

The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar on Monday (19/7) is predicted to weaken to the range of 14,550 per dollar, with potential support at 14,480 per dollar.

"The market is still worried about the potential for slowing economic growth due to the increase in global COVID-19 cases," said Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

In addition, the strengthening of the US dollar is also in line with improving US economic data, retail sales for June released last Friday.

"The improvement in the consumption sector in the US, which makes up the largest share of US GDP, plus an increase in inflation that exceeds the target, will open up opportunities for tightening the US Central Bank's monetary policy in the near future," he said.
