First Week Day, Rupiah Seen Depreciating on Year End Tapering Signal

Jakarta -   The rupiah exchange rate is expected to fall against the US dollar on Monday (30/8), owing to a tapering signal at the end of the year.

"This signal from US Central Bank Governor Jerome Powell has the potential to boost the strengthening of the US dollar," said money market analyst Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

Furthermore, the market will confirm this issue with US job statistics due out this week.

If the data improves, the tapering issue will strengthen, which will help the US dollar to strengthen.

On the other side, the improved epidemic situation in the country may limit the rupiah's current depreciation.

Potential weakness to the 14,450 per US dollar range, with potential support in the 14,400 per US dollar range.
