The rupiah exchange rate against the US  dollar on Friday (23/7) is expected to maintain its strengthening momentum after breaking below the range of 14,500 per US dollar yesterday.

"Market interest in rising risk is still the trigger for the strengthening of the rupiah," said money market observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

However, market concerns about the rate of increase in new cases of COVID-19, especially in Southeast Asia and in Indonesia itself, could be a barrier to the strengthening of the rupiah today.

In addition, the decline in Indonesia's economic growth projection by BI yesterday could also be a barrier to the strengthening of the rupiah.

The potential range for the movement of the rupiah exchange rate today is in the range of 14,450-14,520 per US dollar.
