Rupiah May Weaken to Dollar as Investors Await US CPI Data

Jakarta - The rupiah exchange rate may weaken against the US dollar on Monday (13/9) as the market anticipates the release of US consumer inflation data for August 2021, which is due tomorrow night.

"The data will likely show that the US inflation rate is still rising, which opens up opportunities for tapering at the end of the year by the Fed," said money market analyst Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

At the end of last week, US producer inflation data for August showed an increase of 8.3% year on year, compared to the previous 7.8%.

Last week, one of the Fed's officials, Cleveland area leader Loretta Mester, supported the tapering policy to be implemented at the end of the year.

On the other hand, the improvement in COVID-19 cases in the country compared to neighboring countries can prevent the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate.

"Today's rupiah potential range is 14,180-14,250 per US dollar," said Aristo
