IDX:Investors Reaches 4.1 Million, Despite COVID-19 Pandemic
The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) noted that currently, there are 4.1 million investors in the capital market, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Until January 17, 2021, new investors have reached 4 million, which is an extraordinary addition. If We go back to 2016, the number was still below 1 million, 894,000 investors, now it is nearly 4.1 million investors," said the President Director of IDX, Inarno Djajadi, in Jakarta, Monday (25/1).
According to Inarno, active investors on the stock exchange in 2020 reached 94,000 per day. Daily transactions reached a high frequency in December 2020, and the average peak of transactions on 22 December 2020 exceeded 1.6 million.
"We are, again, amazed that it even reached 2 million these days," he explained.
Aso, the position of the capital market in Indonesia is further away from neighboring countries. Since 2017, Indonesia has recorded the highest daily transactions among Asean countries, surpassing Thailand, which recorded the top position in previous years.
Currently, daily transactions in Indonesia are 619,000, outpassing Thailand of 496,000, and Malaysia of 401,000.
Likewise, the listing of initial shares or company listing in Indonesia last year also recorded the highest. Last year, the IDX recorded 51 company listings.
During this pandemic, new investors in the capital market continued to surge. On December 29, 2020, the IDX recorded 3.87 million Single Investor Identification (SID) investors, an increase of 56 percent from the position at the end of 2019.
