First Quarter, Balance of Payment Surplus US$4.1 Billion


Indonesia's Balance of Payments (BOP) recorded a surplus in the first quarter of 2021, thus supporting external resilience.

"The balance of payments in the first quarter of 2021 recorded a surplus of US$4.1 billion, after experiencing a deficit of around US$0.2 billion in the previous quarter," said BI Executive Director Erwin Haryono in an official publication, Friday (21/5).

He added that the surplus came from the capital and financial account surplus, which exceeded the low current account deficit. With this development, the position of foreign exchange reserves at the end of March 2021 reached US$137.1 billion, an increase from US$135.9 billion at the end of December 2020.

The position of foreign reserves is equivalent to financing 9.7 months of imports and servicing external government debt and is above the international adequacy standard.
