Positive Expectations for Global Economic Recovery Support Rupiah Strengthening

On Monday (26/4), the rupiah exchange rate is predicted to strengthen following the strengthening sentiment of regional currencies against the US dollar.

Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra said that the strengthening of regional exchange rates was influenced by positive market expectations for global economic recovery, as shown by positive economic data.

"The potential for the strengthening of the Rupiah is towards 14,460 per US dollar with potential resistance in the range of 14,550 per US dollar," he said in Jakarta.

Last week the PMI data for manufacturing and services in the European region showed better than expected.

US and UK employment data also look improving. Previously, China showed a very high first-quarter GDP growth of around 18%.

Indonesia's economic data also shows improvement, such as growing manufacturing PMI data and surplus trade balance data.

On the other hand, the increase in new daily cases of Covid-19 in the world could trigger concerns from market players so that the strengthening of the exchange rate against the US dollar is limited.

The dividend season in Indonesia can also hold back the strengthening because the need for US dollars for dividend payments increases.
