Bumi Resources Predicts Coal Price to Reach US$63 per Ton This Year


PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) projects that coal prices will continue to increase, reaching an average of US$63 per ton in 2021 and US$66 per ton in 2022.

BUMI's President Director, Saptari Hoedaja, in his 2020 annual report said, this optimism is supported by the target of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI), which estimates that the upward trend in Newcastle thermal coal prices will continue throughout this year.

Several factors, including improving economic recovery in many countries, especially China as the main market, supported the rising coal price.

Then, natural factors also boost the coal market such as colder winters in the Northern Hemisphere, rain and waves in Indonesia, and cyclones in Australia. Third, the tension in China's trade relations with Australia has also heated coal prices and markets.
