BI Says Income to Consumption Ratio Increases to 73.2 Percent in January 2021


The average proportion of consumer income used for consumption or the average propensity to consume Indonesians' ratio in January 2021 increased to 73.2 percent.

Bank Indonesia (BI) said the January figure is higher than the average proportion of consumer income used for consumption in December 2020, which only 69.0 percent.

"The increase in the proportion of consumers in January 2021 is followed by a decrease in the average proportion of saved consumer income (saving to income ratio)," said Executive Director, Head of the BI Communication Department, Erwin Haryono, in Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/2).

The saving to income ratio in January 2021 was recorded at 15.3 percent, down from the previous level of 20.8 percent in December. In line with this, the average debt to income ratio in January 2021 increased from 10.2 percent during the last month to 11.5 percent in January 2021.

Based on the expenditure group, the average increase in the proportion of consumption to income occurred in all expenditure categories, with the highest in respondents with Rp's expenditure. 3.1 million to Rp. 4 million per month.

Meanwhile, a decrease in the portion of savings to income also occurred at all levels of respondents' expenditure, especially those with expenditure levels of Rp. 4.1 million to Rp. 5 million per month.
