BI: Retail Sales Grow 6.1% in March

The results of the Retail Sales Survey (RSS) indicated an increase in monthly retail sales performance in March 2021.

"Real Sales Index (RSI) for March 2021 grew 6.1% (MoM), an increase from the previous month's growth of -2.7% (MoM)," said a press release from Bank Indonesia on Tuesday (11/5).

Respondents said that the increase in retail sales was in line with more robust public demand ahead of Ramadan, accompanied by favorable seasonal and weather conditions. The increase in retail sales occurred in all groups, especially the clothing sub-group, the cultural and recreational goods group, and the motor vehicle fuel group.

Based on the RSS results, respondents predicted an increase in retail sales performance to continue until April 2021. This was reflected in the RSI for April 2021, which was projected to grow 11.4% (MoM), in line with the increased purchasing power during Ramadan, favorable seasons and weather, and many discount programs
