BI Perry: Rupiah Remains Stable


The Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiwo, stated that the Rupiah exchange rate on May 24, 2021, strengthened 0.63% point to point and 1.42% on average compared to April 2021.

"This development continues the strengthening of the Rupiah exchange rate in the previous month by 0.55% on a point to point basis," said Perry through an online press conference, Tuesday (25/5).

He added that the strengthening of the Rupiah exchange rate was driven by the inflow of foreign capital into the domestic financial market, although it has been under pressure due to fluctuations in UST yields in recent developments.

With these developments, up to May 24, 2021, the Rupiah recorded a depreciation of around 2.12% (YtD) compared to the level at the end of 2020, but relatively lower than several other developing countries, Turkey, Brazil, and Thailand.
