BI Sees 2021, 2022 Inflation Well Maintained

Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that until July 2021, the national inflation rate was relatively well maintained.

"The inflation rate in July 2021 was recorded at 1.52% on an annual basis or year on year (YoY). It is estimated that the inflation rate until the end of 2021 will reach the BI target in the range of 2% to 4%," he said at the 2021 Inflation Control National Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/8).

According to Perry, as inflation expectations and the rupiah exchange rate were maintained, demand and supply were not yet strong, BI estimates that inflation in 2021 and 2022 will be maintained within the target range of 2% - 4%.

The risk of rising inflation in 2022 needs to be anticipated due to increasing domestic demand and rising global commodity prices.

"Inflation increases next year must be anticipated and commodity prices show an upward trend," he said.
