BI Governor Forecasts Digital Market to Rise 33% to Rp337 Trillion in 2021


Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo estimates that the growth of transactions in the digital or e-commerce market will increase by 33% to Rp337 trillion from Rp253 trillion in the previous year.

"In addition, the electronic money will also increase by around 32% to Rp266 trillion this year from last year's Rp201 trillion," Perry said at the online opening of the Indonesian Digital Financial Economy Festival on Monday (5/4).

He added that digital banking also increased by 19% from Rp27,000 trillion to Rp32,200 trillion this year.

"Bank Indonesia is committed to supporting joint efforts to accelerate the digitalization of Indonesia's economy and finance," he stressed.

Meanwhile, the steps to accelerate the digitalization of the payment system are encouraging the acceleration of digitalization of finance through the QR Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), promoting the success of the National Proud National Movement (GBBI), preparing a 24/7 fast payment for retail payments to replace the Bank Indonesia National Clearing System (SKNBI) to accelerate transaction settlement, promoting banking digitalization through Open Application Programming Interfaces (Open API) standardization and promoting regional financial transactions' electronification.

In the same place, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto added that the ministry prepared the framework for the National Digital Economic Strategy by taking into account the complexity and linkages of various policies between authorities and stakeholders' needs both at the central and regional levels.

"The National Digital Economy Strategic Framework includes three cross-sectoral strategies, namely accelerating digitalization in the business and industrial sectors, creating various opportunities in digital development and connectivity that can be utilized equally by all parties and encouraging coordination across sectors and across government agencies, both in central and regional, "said the Coordinating Minister Airlangga.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate, and Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners Wimboh Santoso, expressed their support in accelerating the digitalization of the national economy and finance in the areas of fiscal policy, network infrastructure, and the readiness of banking and the nationwide financial sector.
