BI Governor Perry: Global Economic Recovery Faces Risks

Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo stated that the ongoing global economic recovery still faces some risks.

"Some of them are the chance of a pandemic re-outbreak, the tightening of global financial conditions, the economic impact of a long-running pandemic, the emergence of social problems, an increase in natural disasters, and geopolitical risks. In dealing with these risks, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recommends that policy responses be adjusted to the conditions and economic developments in each country, "he said in Jakarta, Monday (12/4).

According to Perry, at the stage of escaping the crisis, it should be focused on spending in the health sector, targeted fiscal support, accommodative monetary policy, and monitoring risks to financial sector stability.

Furthermore, at the safeguarding the recovery stage, efforts need to focus on increasing production capacity and incentives for efficient allocation of resources.

"Meanwhile, for the long term, efforts need to be focused on strengthening international cooperation, reforming the policy framework, and addressing climate change," he explained.

The IMF projects that the global economy will grow by 6% in 2021, then moderate growth to 4.4% in 2022.

This growth will be supported by policies in several developed countries and ongoing vaccination programs in various countries.
