BI Forecasts Current Account Deficit of 0.6%-1.4% in 2021

Bank Indonesia (BI) estimates that the current account deficit (CAD) in 2021 will record a thin deficit because a large trade surplus supports it.

"The current transaction is estimated to record a deficit of 0.6%-1.4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is deeper than the 2020 realization of -0.4% of GDP," said BI Governor Perry Warjiyo in Jakarta on Thursday (22/7).

He explained that the increase in exports of main commodities such as iron and steel and motor vehicles and the high rise in world commodities supported this performance.

"Export improvements occurred in Sumatra, Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and Java," he said.
