BI Cuts GDP Growth Forecast in Second Quarter


Bank Indonesia (BI) estimates that the economic growth rate in the second quarter of 2021 will be lower than the previous estimate of 7%.

Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo said, before a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, BI saw that economic activity in the second quarter jumped very high compared to the first quarter of 2021.

BI initially projected the economy in the second quarter of 2021 to grow by 7%, but due to a high spike in the last two weeks of June 2021, economic growth is expected to be lower than 7%.

"We have to see what the impact will be in the last 2 weeks, maybe lower than 7%, but will be higher than 6%," in his statement, Monday (5/7).

Meanwhile, BI estimates that economic growth will reach the range of 4.1 to 5.1% overall this year, with a midpoint of 4.6%.
