Bank Mandiri Plans to Sell Green Bonds of US$300 Million in 2021

PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) plans to issue green bonds of US$ 300 million this year.

"Currently, we still have a global MTN of around US$ 750 million from US$ 2 billion. Of thisUS$ 750 million will be utilized in 2021, of which what is already in Bank Mandiri's plan is to issue green bonds of around US $ 300 million in 2021, "said Bank Mandiri President Director Darmawan Junaidi in an online presentation of 2020 financial performance, on Thursday (28 / 1).

Also, Bank Mandiri has room to issue sustainable bonds of up to  Rp19 trillion. Meanwhile, the deadline for the issuance of the PUB (Sustainable Public Offering) is May 2022.

"We are still reviewing the issuance of bonds denominated in rupiah for the timing of issuance execution, which is absolutely correct, taking into account the current rupiah liquidity and very ample market liquidity," he added.

Currently, said Darmawan, Bank Mandiri has plans to increase capital for corporate entities to expand the business. However,  inorganic methods such as acquisitions or buying shares in target companies are still under study.

"Indeed, we have a study on access to capital, but with the current condition, we will focus more on consolidating into and supporting the PEN program," he said.

Therefore, he emphasized that corporate action in acquisitions is still not a priority for Bank Mandiri.
