Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) is optimistic that the acceleration of sharia economic development in the regions and nationally will spur the national economic recovery.

"It is hoped that the development of the sharia economy in the regions will become a stepping stone to encourage economic recovery," said Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo in Jakarta on Friday (13/8).

According to Perry, Indonesia's economic performance shows an improving direction as reflected in the realization of economic growth in the second quarter, which grew 7.07% year on year. The whole of Indonesia has shown improvement, including the Sumatra region.

"Along with these improvements, the sharia-based industry has also grown positively. Alhamdulillah, the halal industry sector which includes halal food, Muslim, Muslim-friendly fashion and tourism, grew 8.24% higher," he said.
